I haven’t been sleeping well… I don’t think I’m terribly stressed, but then again I never know what’s going on behind my wall of consciousness.

My phrase of choice since getting out of bed this morning has been “I hate today.”

Just one of those days that for no apparent reason I feel like I should just go back to bed and try to wake up tomorrow instead.

Wahhhh!!

Oh Celery… Who knew you could surmount such an efficient attack against my taste buds.

So I always thought it was a normal part of the whole celery experience to get a numb tongue from ingesting it. Apparently (after a few seriously awesome faces from Jeremy and a google search or two) it’s not normal. Since when is anything in my life normal, anyway?? Hah.

Eugenol is a chemical found in celery (the darker the stalk, the more eugenol, apparently) that has been used in dental reparatory work for general numbing and whatnot. Apparently people who are sensitive to celery based eugenol are often sensitive to the eugenol used in perfumes.

Of course, none of this is going to stop me from enjoying a few nice stalks of eugenol-infused celery with my buffalo chicken tonight!

Mmm..

So… Here are the ingredients for the delicious sandwich that spawned a migraine the size of montana.

Ingredients: Ciabatta (unbleached enriched flour [wheat flour, malted barley flour, niacin, reduced iron, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid], water, natural wheat sour, salt, rye flour, wheat gluten, malted barley flour, soy lecithin, ascorbic acid, enzymes, olive oil blend [extra virgin olive oil, canola oil], yeast, calcium diphosphate, fava bean flour, dextrose, malted barley flour, distilled monoglycerides, wheat flour, wheat starch, soy lecithin, enzymes, ascorbic acid), sausage (pork, water, salt, spices, sugar, sweet paprika, black pepper, dextrose, nutmeg, cayenne pepper, sage, thyme), pasteurized eggs, cheddar cheese (cultured pasteurized milk, salt, enzymes, annatto for color), salt, black pepper

Huh… There sure are a lot of things… I think I’m SOL as far as figuring out what it is that made me ill.
Crud.

So my mum and I went out to Panera for breakfast this morning. It was really nice to just sit and talk over some food. I had an opportunity to do this a while back with my dad, too. Panera is a great spot to breakfast, especially with their delicious breakfast sandwiches.
After breakfast, I noticed I started to feel kinda gross, and while sitting in the car with my mum as she dropped off I realized that this is the second time I’ve had Panera’s breakfast sandwiches and felt ill afterwards. Ugh.
I’ve emailed Panera to see if they can get me an ingredients list. Whew. I hope it’s something lame like a preservative or something… whatever it is, it’s very good at inducing migraines.
Oh well. The time spent hanging around chatting was totally worth a headache :)

But I’ve started a strictly horse-related blog for my students (and I guess whoever else is all that interested in horse-stuff)…
You can find it HERE

I’m also working on a new website/resume for my riding instruction and training business. We’ll see if I ever get that done… Hah.

All I can say is WOW, amazing.

I’m not sure if everyone out there has been as oblivious to the existence of this Opera as I have, but the New York Times had a great bit on “Doctor Atomic” this morning.

If only they’d play it somewhere other than the one place I’ve hated visiting more than any other place I’ve ever visited (NYC)… And… for some reason I can’t articulate that any better than I have. Hahaha.

after getting a web comic suggestion from an old friend, this evening, i found this:

and promptly thought of Jeremy.

edit:

AND THIS!

I’m laying about today in a sort of woe-is-me-themed bundle of blankets, tissues and snot.

It seems like almost every 365 days I am struck down with a terrible, terrible head cold that leaves me wailing things like “I am sicker than I have ever been in my entire life”… and of course that isn’t true at all.

Jeremy and I met my parents this weekend to see “City of Ember” which I seriously enjoyed. Directly after seeing the movie, I walked the measley 100 yards down the block to Borders where I purchased the first two books in the Ember series.

The movie was really quite good, in a hollow representation of an awesome adventure. I loved the aesthetic (and I’ve been obsessing over the costumes ever since) but the overall story was thin and pale… I really felt like it was more of an outline for something really incredible. Like a MadLib of a movie, so I could go home and think of cool things to happen in the city of Ember, using the characters provided.

Lina's Cloak

I’ve become a little obsessed with Lina Mayfleet’s Messenger cloak, and I plan to make one for myself, as soon as I can find fabric appropriate for it.

Really the costume design was what made it so attractive to me. Very drab, nearly steampunk and pretty much tattered, patched and post-apocalyptic.

Tim Robbins Ember

Tim Robins and Bill Murray were both really great in the movie, too. I can’t say Tim Robins matched the description of Doon Harrow’s father from the book, but he definitely played the character well. Bill Murray was dead on as the Mayor… dead on.

One of my favorite sets in the movie was that of Lina’s grandmother’s house. She lives above a tiny yarn shop that she runs, and Lina is constantly ducking in and out of yarn tangles to get around the house. I could live there.

So now I’m off to my little bundle of blankets, tissues and snot, setting down to read “The People of Sparks” which is the sequel to “The City of Ember” by Jean DuPrau. So far, I’m really enjoying the books, but they, too, are a bit pale and thin. I suppose such is the nature of children’s books. I just wish people gave kids more merit than that. Like Madeline L’Engle and A Wrinkle in Time! Geez… Kids can follow all sorts of subtleties and intricacies in books. For god sakes, L’Engle wrote about Tesseracts in her book!

Harumph…

Blughn… I think that pretty much sums it up.

There’s only one form of relief I can think of…

..

..

hahaha.

Much better.
